Tanzanian music sensation Zuchu has called out organisers of the African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024) Finals closing ceremony over alleged non-payment, despite her show-stopping performance that lit up Kasarani Stadium on Saturday, August 30, 2024.
The WCB Wasafi first lady, who is also the wife Diamond Platnumz, headlined the star-studded night alongside Savara, formerly of Sauti Sol, and Uganda’s BET Award winner Eddy Kenzo.
The trio thrilled thousands of football fans with a cultural showcase ahead of the highly anticipated final between Morocco and Madagascar.
But while the lights dimmed and the applause faded, Zuchu says her joy turned sour. In a strongly worded statement, she accused LEAP Creative Agency, CAF’s event partners, of failing to clear her balance despite repeated assurances.
“I delivered my best performance and upheld my end of the agreement. It is deeply disappointing that professionalism has not been extended in return. As an artist, I expect respect and fairness. This delay is not only unfair but unacceptable,” she lamented.
The star further revealed she dropped other shows to honour the CHAN finals, only to be left chasing after her money weeks later. Her loyal fans, Zuchu Nation, have since flooded social media with messages of support, accusing organisers of “disrespecting” the Wasafi diva.
Zuchu, famed for hits like Sukari and Amanda, was the CHAN 2024 showstopper. Dressed in a long-sleeved emerald-green top with shimmering silver-fringed cuffs, paired with a beige and gold grass-inspired fringe skirt that accentuated her toned legs, the 30-year-old commanded the stage with her sultry moves and powerful vocals.
Fans erupted in song as she belted out her hits, the stadium turning into one big singalong.
Not to be outdone, Savara rocked a striking coordinated white suit, his jacket and trousers glimmering with reflective bead-like accents that caught the light at every step, while Eddy Kenzo brought Ugandan firepower with his energetic set. Together, the trio delivered a finale worthy of the continental showpiece.
