Celebrated Kenyan actor and filmmaker Abel Mutua is counting his blessings after surviving a harrowing robbery in Kahawa West.

In a candid social media post, the celebrated storyteller revealed that he was ambushed by a group of thugs who made away with his iPhone 16 Pro Max and Bose headphones. Despite the terrifying encounter, Mutua said he was grateful to have escaped with his life.

“Wueh! Sema kimeumana! The young men at Kahawa West walinikaribisha jiji jana. iPhone 16 Pro Max gone, Bose Headphones gone as well. But cha muhimu ni despite the massive knives they were carrying, walinibakishia uhai,” he wrote.

The comedian, known for his witty and lighthearted personality, added with dark humor that the attack happened just across from the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral & Research Hospital (KUTRRH) Morgue, a chilling coincidence that underscored how close he came to danger.

“Ironically they jumped me right across from the KUTRRH Morgue. Wangeamua ningeamkia kwa fridge leo,” he joked, sarcastically thanking the thugs for sparing his life.

Mutua wrapped up his post on a humorous note, saying he would be “unreachable for a few days” as he replaced his stolen gadgets.

“Haya! Mtaniruhusu nilale mteja siku kadhaa,” he wrote.

The incident has sparked an outpouring of reactions from fans and fellow celebrities, many expressing concern and relief that he was unharmed.

Comedian Njugush, a close friend, commented, “Hawatambui ata Wazee??? Usiwalaani baa mdogo.”

Filmmaker Phil Karanja also chimed in humorously, “Ei siku hizi mtu anakaribishwa county zote si Nairobi tu.”

Others applauded Mutua’s resilience and sense of humor, even in the face of danger.

Abel Mutua, popularly known as “Mkurugenzi,” is one of Kenya’s most celebrated storytellers.

He rose to fame for his role as ‘Freddie’ in Tahidi High before co-founding Phil-It Productions, the team behind hit shows like Real Househelps of Kawangware and Sue & Jonnie.

Today, Mutua is best known for his hit YouTube series Young & Stupid and Celebrity First Encounters, where his storytelling brilliance continues to entertain and inspire audiences across Kenya.
