After a spell away from the studio, award-winning singer-songwriter Muthaka has made a stirring return with her latest release, Priceless, a reggae-inspired collaboration with Lavosti.
The single, distributed by ONErpm, marks a new chapter for the Nairobi-based artiste, who steps beyond her signature indie-soul sound to explore a genre steeped in rhythm and reflection.
Known for her delicate fusion of soul and R&B, she takes a creative leap with Priceless, blending her melodic tenderness with Lavosti’s grounded, rootsy delivery.
The result is a musical dialogue that bridges intimacy and wisdom, inviting listeners to reflect as much as they sway.
Production-wise, Priceless offers both artistes room to shine.
Muthaka’s expressive vocals float over a textured reggae rhythm, while Lavosti’s commanding tone adds depth and resonance.
Together, they strike a balance between freshness and familiarity, a modern take on reggae that still pays homage to its timeless spirit.
The collaboration feels natural as two distinct voices find harmony without losing their individuality.
Muthaka’s evolution has been defined by artistic curiosity.
Since debuting with her 2021 project Sunshine, she has steadily carved a name for herself as one of Kenya’s most versatile and emotionally articulate performers.
Her breakout moment came in 2022 when she was crowned Best Female Artist in Eastern Africa at the AFRIMA Awards, an accolade that confirmed her rising influence across the continent.
From performing with a live band across iconic venues such as The Alchemist, Geco Café, and Fadhilee’s Garage, to headlining her own sold-out shows, she has remained grounded in her craft.
Her collaborations include some of East Africa’s most respected names including Bensoul, Fena Gitu and Chemutai Sage, as well as Nigerian acts PrayzzZ and Idahams, reflecting her cross-border musical appeal.
“Priceless continues my collaborative tradition but with a renewed sense of exploration. It’s shows how much i am willing to stretch out my sound and experiment more while still staying true to my essence as a storyteller,” she says.
Her earlier releases like Love Bite and Why Don’t You Love Me have revealed vulnerability through soul and R&B, and this particular project extends that honesty into reggae’s meditative rhythms.
Now an independent artiste, Muthaka stands as one of Kenya’s most exciting contemporary voices — bold, versatile, and unafraid to reinvent herself.
“With this track I am not only celebrating creative partnerships but I am also reminding fans why my artistry, much like the love i sing about, is indeed priceless,” she adds. [Boniface Mithika]
