AFC Leopards has announced a landmark decision that will forever change how the club treats its football legends.
In a statement posted by club chairman Boniface Ambani, the club confirmed that former players will now enjoy seamless access to all home matches, a first in the team’s long and decorated history.
“For the first time in the history of the club, the legends will have a seamless entry into our home matches,” Ambani wrote. “NEC has gone a step ahead to get them access passes to the stadium. No more harassment at the entry points.”
The chairman said the move is part of a broader initiative to reconnect the club’s greats with fans and current players.
“It’s time for our fans to have a one-on-one interaction with our former stars — the likes of JJ Masiga, Abbas, Mulamba, Murila, Weche T9, Musukus, Lukoye, Asibwa, Kadenge, Ofek, and many others,” Ambani added.
He further noted that the new digital access passes would also include players from later generations such as Allan Wanga, Charles Okwemba, Mike Baraza, Simon Mulama, and Wycliffe Jumba, ensuring every era of Ingwe history is represented.
At hand to collect the first set of cards was the legendary and no-nonsense defender Mickey “T9” Weche, one of the most revered figures in the club’s history.
“This is long overdue,” Weche said. “Many of us dedicated our lives to this club, and being recognized in this way means the world. It’s not just about entry passes; it’s about respect and belonging.”
Ambani emphasized that the electronic passes will be scanned through a special gadget at the stadium entrance, eliminating the inconveniences and altercations that some legends have faced in the past.
Beyond access, the chairman said the initiative aims to rebuild unity and mentorship within the club. “We need them back to help this club grow. Their one-on-one talk with our current players and fan base will bring back the relationship we need. Unity for a purpose,” he stated.
Ambani also revealed that the next phase will see fully registered members receiving similar electronic passes, marking a step toward digitizing and professionalizing fan engagement.
