Renowned music executive and philanthropist Yusuf Noah, popularly known as Refigah Heviweit, has been officially inducted into the African Union Parliament.

The event, which took place recently in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, marks a new milestone in his illustrious career that bridges entertainment, youth empowerment, and continental advocacy.

Refigah, the founder of GrandPa Records, one of Kenya’s most influential music labels, has long been recognised for his role in nurturing East African talent and championing social causes through music and entrepreneurship.

His latest appointment to the continental legislative body showcased his growing influence beyond the entertainment industry, signaling a deeper commitment to policy and development initiatives aligned with the African Union’s Agenda 2063.

During the induction ceremony, he expressed gratitude to the Advisory Board and Board of Trustees for the African Union Ambassadorial Parliamentary Award of Honour, acknowledging it as a recognition of his dedication to public service and Pan-African unity.

“We are not here to represent political parties or narrow interests,” he said in his acceptance speech. “We are here to champion the Africa we want an Africa that is united, prosperous, and self-determined.”

In his address, he also called on fellow leaders to envision a borderless Africa, where technology, innovation, and collaboration drive sustainable development.

He urged a focus on empowering young people and harnessing Africa’s collective potential to transform its future.

“We must leave Africa better than we found it, for the sake of our children and future generations,” he remarked passionately.

“The era of Africa’s greatness is now. Let’s rewrite the narrative, harness our collective potential, and deliver the Africa we envision – prosperous, united, and thriving. The time is now; the future is ours to shape,” he said.
