Kenya once again proved its dominance on the global stage after Hellen Obiri and Benson Kipruto produced breathtaking performances to win both the women’s and men’s races at the 2025 New York City Marathon.

In a record-breaking run, Obiri stormed to victory in 2:19:51, becoming the first woman in history to run sub-2:20 in New York.

Obiri led a powerful all-Kenyan sweep, with Sharon Lokedi and Sheila Chepkirui finishing second and third respectively, sealing a 1-2-3 Kenyan podium finish in one of the most dominant performances in NYC Marathon history.

On the men’s side, Benson Kipruto delivered another moment of glory for Kenya, winning the marathon in 2:08:09. His triumph made him the first man ever to win the Boston, Chicago, and New York City Marathons; a historic triple crown in the world of long-distance running.

Kipruto faced fierce competition from Alexander Mutiso, edging him out by just 0.3 seconds in a nail-biting finish that left fans on their feet.

Meanwhile, marathon legend Eliud Kipchoge crossed the line in 17th place, closing the curtain on his remarkable running career that inspired an entire generation of athletes around the world.

With both Obiri and Kipruto’s victories, Kenya once again reaffirmed its marathon supremacy, turning the streets of New York red, green, and black
