After weeks of silence amid Tanzania’s tense post-election climate, Bongo Flava superstar Diamond Platnumz has finally broken his calm, returning to social media to celebrate his close friend Baba Levo’s swearing-in as the new Member of Parliament for Kigoma Town.
Speaking to reporters, Diamond congratulated Baba Levo, who unseated veteran politician and fellow artiste Zitto Kabwe, on what he called an “inspiring victory.”
“What Baba Levo has achieved is truly inspiring to young people,” he wrote. “It proves that anything is possible if we believe in ourselves. I’m super proud of him.”
The Wasafi boss went on to describe Baba Levo’s rise from the entertainment scene to parliament as a powerful message of perseverance.
“Don’t see the world or your government as bad; everything is possible,” he said. “To succeed, you must go through challenges. They say when darkness falls, it means dawn is coming.”
Diamond also revealed he cancelled a planned trip to Dubai to attend what he described as a “historic moment” for his longtime ally.
The Number One hitmaker, a known supporter of President Samia Suluhu Hassan and the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party, had faced mounting criticism from fans and political commentators for his quiet stance during the heated election period.
His decision to archive previous posts supporting CCM further fueled speculation that he was retreating from the political spotlight.
Reports show that between October 30 and November 5, Diamond lost over 100,000 Instagram followers.
The mass unfollowing came shortly after a five-day internet blackout that followed the election, which opposition groups claim was used to suppress information about post-election violence.
