Beloved gospel singer Betty Bayo will be laid to rest on Thursday, 20th November, at Mugumo Estate along Kiambu Road.
According to fellow musician Ngaruiya Junior, who sits in the funeral committee, Betty’s sendoff is estimated to cost Sh3 million.
A memorial service will also be held at Christian Foundation Fellowship (CFF) Church along Kiambu Road, where Bayo worshipped.
Known for her hit song “11th Hour”, Betty passed away on November 10 at Kenyatta National Hospital, where she had been undergoing treatment for acute myeloid leukaemia, a condition she kept private.
Throughout her illness, Bayo insisted on privacy, asking friends not to post photos or organise public fundraisers.
Friends said she feared online criticism and wanted to maintain dignity.
“She always said people should die with their respect,” recalled fellow musician Mary Wanjiru, known as Shiru Wa GP, who was with her during her final weeks.
Speculation about her burial site had been rife, with some suggesting her ex-husband Pastor Victor Kanyari’s home, her current husband Tash’s residence, or their jointly purchased land in Maragua, Murang’a County.
Pastor Kanyari had previously admitted that he was unaware of Bayo’s illness, adding that it compounded his grief.
He revealed that he had never left Bayo during their marriage; the separation came when she decided to leave, though the two continued co-parenting their children, Danny and Sky.
Viewing for the late Betty was conducted at KU Funeral Home after her body was transferred from the Kenyatta National Hospital, in a sombre ceremony that moved Kenyans.
Family and friends are meeting at her home and the Bluesprings Hotel for daily prayer meetings.
