The Machakos County Government is seeking evidence from media personality Oga Obinna amid a growing dispute over comedian Sammy Kioko’s alleged unpaid contract.
The standoff escalated after the County Attorney’s Office sent a formal demand letter to Obinna, requesting proof to support Kioko’s claims that he had not been paid for supplying uniforms to the county.
The three-page letter, dated November 12, 2025, was made public by Obinna via a Facebook post.
Obinna shared it on Facebook, reacting with a mix of surprise and humour, “Wueh… Is this document legit? Is this real or am I dreaming, jamani?” he wrote, tagging Sammy Kioko in the post.
In the letter, signed by County Solicitor Juliet Nthambi, the Machakos County Government stated that Kioko is neither a registered supplier nor linked to any company authorised to do business with the county.
“The said Sammy Kioko is not a registered supplier with the County Government of Machakos,” the letter read. “He does not appear as a director or contact person in any company supplying goods or services to the county.”
Nthambi further noted that there is no record of any contract or procurement agreement involving Kioko, and that the interview had caused reputational damage to the county government.
“The allegations of discussion held with several officers of the County, as discussed in your show, cannot be ascertained or substantiated, as there is no evidence of such meetings. Sammy Kioko did not produce, and neither did he avail a duly registered power of attorney authorising him to transact on behalf of the alleged company and to speak about the contractual obligations between the said company and the County Government of Machakos,” the letter reads.
Obinna had interviewed Kioko on November 10, where he gave the inside story of his alleged woes with the County government.
It remains to be seen how the case will unfold, given the interest of different influential figures, with the latest being former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.
Sonko, who invited Kioko to his office to meet with him and Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti, said the three parties would negotiate to reach an amicable solution.
“Fanya hivi, mtume kwangu. Akuje kesho tumtafute gavana polepole, tujue vile tutafanya. Tufanye tu chini ya maji tuone ni proposal gani atapewa. Nimekuwa nikiona iyo maneno kwa mtandao,” Sonko said.
