City pastor Victor Kanyari has opened up on why he has not remarried since his separation from the late gospel singer Betty Bayo.
Speaking during a church service, Kanyari heaped praise on the late singer, describing her as central to his relationship with their two children.
“I have never met someone like her. I have never met anyone as sober as she was. I have never found her replacement because I would rather live alone than be with someone who will mistreat me or our children,” Kanyari said.
“She was a very lovely girl. She introduced me to her husband and would let me spend time with the kids. I love them so much,” he added.
Kanyari also shared how his life changed after the Sh310 scandal.
“After the Sh310 scandal, my accounts were frozen since the government had called upon anyone whose money had been collected, so I effectively could not access my accounts,” he said, clarifying that Betty left the marriage, not the other way around.
He also acknowledged the role of Betty’s widower, Hiram Gitau, in her life.
“Alichukua bibi yangu, amekaa na yeye, amenitunzia. Watoto hawajawahi kuniambia ubaya wa Tash au Betty. Kumaanisha wanaishi vizuri. Kwa sasa tupatie bwana yake heshima,” Kanyari said.
His remarks came on the day a memorial for the late singer was held, attended by politicians, fellow gospel artistes, family, friends, and fans, including Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi, former CS Moses Kuria, and musicians Shiru Wa GP, Jane Muthoni, and Ben Githae.
Plans for Betty Bayo’s funeral are ongoing, with a send-off expected on 20th November in Mugumo, Kiambu County.
