Tanzanian Bongo Fleva sensation Zuchu has made continental history after surpassing one billion views on YouTube, becoming the first female artiste from East Africa to cross the milestone.

The achievement marks a defining moment in her career, firmly placing her among the most influential contemporary musicians on the continent.

The WCB signee, widely celebrated for her soft vocals and modern Swahili sound, has continued to dominate the digital space with a consistency that has reshaped expectations for female entertainers in the region. Her label captured the moment with a glowing congratulatory message.

“Official Zuchu becomes the first East African female artiste to hit a massive 1 billion views on YouTube. Her talent, passion and dedication have truly set a new benchmark for African music. This is just the beginning — her rise is unstoppable; her talent knows no limits.”

This win was years in the making. In 2023 alone, Zuchu’s catalogue amassed over 500 million cumulative views, making her the most-watched female artiste in East Africa’s contemporary music landscape.

Her subscriber base tells an even bigger story. With over 4 million YouTube subscribers, Zuchu is the most-followed female artiste on the platform in the region, again placing her at the top of the table.

Signed under WCB Wasafi, the powerhouse label owned by Diamond Platnumz, Zuchu’s rise mirrors that of her mentor, whose own continental influence continues to shape East Africa’s musical exports.

Zuchu’s achievement puts her miles ahead, but she’s part of a growing class of female entertainers steadily pushing boundaries online. The current ranking of East Africa’s most-watched female artistes on YouTube is as follows:
