Comedienne Stella Bunie Koitie, popularly known as Jemutai, has officially announced her intention to vie for the Elgeyo Marakwet County Women Representative seat in the 2027 general elections.
Jemutai made the declaration through a campaign-style poster on Instagram, where she is seen smiling while holding a traditional gourd, accompanied by the slogan, “I Understand Women Better.”
Jemutai will be seeking the seat on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ticket, marking her formal entry into elective politics.
While she is widely recognised for her comedy career, Jemutai has built a strong public presence through stage performances, TV appearances, and social media engagement.
She now intends to channel that popularity into a political campaign aimed at representing women from her county at the national level.
Jemutai now joins a growing list of Kenyan entertainers and digital creators expressing interest in the 2027 polls.
Musician KRG The Don has announced his bid for the Nairobi senatorial seat, rapper Octopizzo plans to vie for the Kibra parliamentary seat, and musician Stevo Simple Boy has shown interest in a Kibera MCA position.
Content creator Mwende Macharia has also indicated plans to enter politics, while social media personality Kennedy Kabugi is eyeing a parliamentary seat in Nakuru East Constituency.
These aspirants are targeting a range of positions, from county-level posts to parliamentary seats.
With the 2027 elections still two years away, they will need to consolidate their constituencies, confirm party affiliations, and shape their campaign strategies.
Jemutai’s announcement comes barely a week after a round of by-elections around the country, which sent the nation shortly into campaign mode.
Among the most hotly contested parliamentary seats were the Mbeere North, Kasipul, Magarini and Banisa.
