The Women in Film Awards (WIFA) has opened nominations for its 7th edition, inviting submissions across nearly 30 categories that celebrate the contribution of women to Kenya’s film industry.

The organisers announced that the call for entries will run until December 15, 2025, with filmmakers and industry professionals encouraged to nominate their work or that of their peers.

This year’s edition is expected to be the largest yet, reflecting the growing influence of women across directing, production, technical fields and digital content creation.

The awards will recognise excellence across directing, production, cinematography, editing, sound design, costume and make-up artistry, animation, acting, scriptwriting, digital content creation and other emerging fields.

Organisers say the 7th edition is expected to be the biggest yet, continuing WIFA’s mission to honour outstanding creatives whose work has driven the industry forward.

Founded by Dr. Susan Gitimu, the Women in Film Awards were created to address the long-standing underrepresentation of women in key filmmaking roles.

Over the years, WIFA has evolved into an influential platform that brings together women filmmakers, fosters networking, and expands financing opportunities.

The awards ceremony annually recognises outstanding female directors, producers, writers, cinematographers, digital creators and performers whose work has shaped Kenya’s film industry.

Each edition reaffirms WIFA’s mission to champion female creatives and push for a more inclusive and equitable industry.
