Mary Magdalene, controversial Mexican-Canadian social media influencer famed for her extreme body modifications, has died aged 33.

Her death resulted from falling from the ninth-floor balcony of a high-rise apartment in Patong, on Phuket Island.

Local police confirmed that the body of Denise Ivonne Jarvis Gongora, who was known internationally by her online moniker, was found in the parking area after the fall.

According to Phuket News, as corroborated by staff at the Condo, Gongora had checked into the building for what was intended as a one-night stay, but just hours later was discovered lifeless below the ninth-floor balcony shortly after 1.50 p.m.

The influencer rose to prominence through her unapologetic embrace of extreme cosmetic procedures, openly sharing her transformations with her hundreds of thousands of followers across Instagram and other platforms.

Her repertoire of surgeries included multiple breast and buttock implants, nose jobs, body lifts and extensive tattoo work, making her one of the most recognisable figures in the online body-modification community.

According to Yahoo News, in the days before her death, Gongora made a cryptic post on social media that alarmed many of her fans.

On 8 December she shared imagery from the closing scene of the film The Truman Show, in which the lead character bids farewell with the line, “And in case I don’t see ya, good afternoon, good evening and good night.”

She accompanied this with a childhood photograph and, reportedly, changed one of her Instagram handles to “MaryMagdaleneDied”.

Tributes have poured in for the late social media icon.

Rapper Kreayshawn, RuPaul‘s Drag Race star Plane Jane and influencer Eden the Doll are among several stars who have all paid their respects.

His brother Ivan also made an emotional tribute to his sister. Alongside an image of himself and Mary eating lunch in Mexico, Ivan wrote: “I wish I’d spent more getting to know you.”
