Comedian and activist Eric Omondi has once again taken his grassroots activism beyond social media, this time reaching out to single mothers by visiting their homes unannounced and spending the night in Mugumoini, Lang’ata constituency.

In a video shared on his Instagram page, Omondi is seen walking into the modest homes of two single mothers, where he is warmly welcomed before rolling up his sleeves to take part in everyday household activities.

Footage circulating online captures a deeply personal interaction as the comedian joins the families in preparing supper.

At one point, Omondi is seen chopping onions as one of the mothers prepares vegetables, before taking charge of cooking ugali.

The group later sits down to share the simple meal, laughing and conversing in what Omondi described as a rare opportunity to truly listen to and learn from ordinary Kenyans outside formal or public forums.

According to the video, Omondi spent the night at one of the homes and was still there the following morning.

Sharing the experience with his followers, Omondi wrote: “Spent the night in Mugumoini in Lang’ata yesterday. Managed to visit and share meals with two single mothers. If we listen keenly and closely, especially to our mothers, a new dawn will arrive, and a new Kenya is possible.”

The comedian, who has increasingly positioned himself as a voice for the marginalised, accompanied the post with the hashtags #ChangingOneCommunityAtATime and #InspiringHope.

Omondi’s latest outreach has drawn mixed reactions online, with some praising the gesture while others dismiss it as a familiar political gimmick associated with the early start of campaign season in the country.

Eric Omondi is rumoured to be eyeing the Lang’ata MP seat, currently held by fellow comedian Phelix ‘Jalang’o’ Odiwuor.
