Top Dentists, dental organisations and students’ dentists have
been awarded for the good service in their line of duty at the Kenya Dentistry
Awards 2025.

In a dinner gala organized by the Kenya Dental Association
(KDA) and graced by Dr Davji Atela, Kenya Medical Pharmacists and Dentists
Union, the dental practitioners and students were feted in recognition of their
outstanding dental professionalism in a bid motivate them and counter illegal
dental practice that was confirmed to be rampant in the country by the KDA
leadership.

Speaking during the gala, Dr. Kahura Mundia, President of
Kenya Dental Association, noted that the event was specifically set up to
celebrate excellence among dental professionals to motivate them to continue
serving humanity with dignity and professionalism.

He said, “today is an event to celebrate the good things dentals professional
do for Kenyans as they work toward delivering oral health care. We are just
celebrating the whole range of students, practitioners, and other persons who
have retired in the profession and to remind Kenyans that it is always good to
access care at the qualified practitioners’ offices because that’s the most
important thing.”

“There is no
reason not to celebrate excellence by the persons who are attending to you. The
best thing to do is to go see a clinician at any clinical facility that is
registered by the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council because that is a
retainer or a person who provides information and clarity regarding the persons
who provide oral health care in the country. We want to celebrate what we do
and remind Kenyans about what we provide as doctors in the country.”

Dr Mundia
noted that the event was keen on raising awareness, supporting enforcement
under the Quality-of-Care Bill, 2025, strengthening the dental workforce,
promoting ethical practice, and partnering with authorities to ensure patient
safety.

He further said
that with unqualified individuals operating illicit dental clinics and putting
patients at serious risk, KDA is leading the charge to protect the public while
celebrating certified excellence and upholding professional standards in dental
care, urging relevant stakeholders and regulators to maintain constant
vigilance against the growing malpractice in dentistry perpetrated by
unqualified practitioners.
