The world spectacularly entered 2026, from record-breaking fireworks and dazzling drone displays to moments of prayer and reflection.

Across continents, millions celebrated the new year with joy, hope, and a sense of shared experience that transcended borders.

In the United Arab Emirates, the night reached unprecedented heights, according to different social media posts seen by TNX Africa.

Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Zayed Festival held a nonstop 62-minute fireworks show, the longest in the country’s history, while 6,500 drones danced across the sky, forming nine enormous moving images set to music.

Nearby Ras Al Khaimah broke a Guinness World Record with a 15-minute aerial display of a phoenix, watched by over 120,000 people.

Dubai, Sharjah, and Ajman lit up their coastlines with simultaneous fireworks and drone shows, turning the desert and city into a vast, glittering celebration.

Back home, Africa’s festivities blended faith, music, and community.

In Kenya, Nairobi’s skyline shimmered as fireworks illuminated the Old Mutual Tower and Global Trade Centre, while thousands flocked to the 14th annual Pamoja Concert in Eldoret.

Gospel stars Rose Muhando, Emmy Kosgei, and Daddy Owen performed before President William Ruto and other national leaders, offering a night of song, prayer, and unity.

Asia and Europe marked the moment with both tradition and spectacle.

Tokyo’s temples and shrines welcomed worshippers, while Seoul’s towering Lotte World Tower and Bangkok’s Chao Phraya River erupted in color.

Paris and London transformed with fireworks over iconic landmarks, bringing together locals and visitors in cities alive with energy.

Rio de Janiero put on a particularly spectacular pyrotechnic display, in the hopes of beating its 2024 Guinness World Record for the biggest New Year’s Eve celebration, when reportedly 2.5 million people gathered to celebrate [Courtesy/Reuters]

In Brazil, Copacabana Beach and the Christ the Redeemer statue glowed under the brilliance of fireworks, and in the United States, Times Square once again became the center of a global celebration.

From intimate gatherings to record-breaking displays, the arrival of 2026 highlighted humanity’s capacity to celebrate together, even as each culture marked the moment in its own way.

Across the world, the night was a shared testament to resilience, hope, and the simple joy of beginning anew.
