Protests erupt in Minneapolis after immigrations agent shoots, kills US citizen

Protests erupted in Minneapolis after an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent shot and killed a woman on Wednesday during an immigration-related operation in which she was reportedly not the intended target.

According to The Washington Post, the victim has been identified as Renee Nicole Good, 37, a mother and a U.S. citizen.

Federal officials said Good attempted to run over immigration agents with her vehicle, prompting one officer to open fire.

However, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey disputed that account, saying the agent acted recklessly.

Video footage of the incident shows ICE agents surrounding a car stopped in the middle of the street. As the vehicle attempts to drive away, one agent is seen pointing a gun at the driver before at least two gunshots are heard.

As more details emerged, Good’s parents paid tribute to their daughter, who was fatally shot just a few blocks from her home.

“She had a good life, but a hard life,” her father, Tim Ganger, told The Washington Post. “She was a wonderful person.”

Good was a prize-winning poet and a hobby guitarist. Minnesota Senator Tina Smith confirmed she was a U.S. citizen.

Mayor Frey said he had been dreading such an incident since the Department of Homeland Security ramped up immigration enforcement in the Twin Cities in recent weeks, deploying thousands of officers in what DHS has described as its “largest operation ever.”

Protesters gathered outside ICE offices, chanting “Shame! Shame!” and “ICE out of Minnesota!”

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz also condemned the shooting, calling it “totally predictable” and “totally avoidable.” He urged demonstrators to remain peaceful and said the state’
