Walking into Nairobi Beauty Week for the first time felt less like attending an event and more like stepping into a living, breathing celebration of African beauty.

The air here buzzed with conversation, laughter, and curiosity.

Stalls glowed with colour, skincare jars catching the light, makeup palettes displayed like art, hair products infused with familiar, comforting scents.

Everywhere you turned, there was intention.

At the heart of the showcase was Nura Ali, the CEO of Bold Brand Group, hosting the event for the first time.

She highlighted the vast, untapped potential of Africa’s beauty industry, calling for innovation, inclusivity, and stronger platforms to nurture local brands.

“This is really being led by a collective. We felt like the beauty industry in Africa, in general, has been overlooked,” Ali said.

For Ali, Nairobi is ultimately the perfect place to build something lasting. She sees it as a city rich in creativity, innovation, and cultural pride, which offers the ideal foundation for an industry that deserves visibility and respect.

Nairobi Beauty Week was created to shine a light on local and regional brands, giving them a platform to be seen, felt, and understood.

Education was part of the agenda, too. Masterclasses brought experts and audiences together, breaking down skincare, haircare, makeup, and wellness in a way that felt personal.

Perhaps the most striking aspect of the week was its redefinition of beauty itself. Ali challenged the surface-level perception often associated with the industry.

“A lot of people think beauty is what you put on top of your face. But for me, beauty really shines when you are happy inside. It’s a simple truth, but one that resonates deeply in a space built on authenticity. If you’re happy within yourself, that beauty naturally shows from the inside out,” she said.

As the week unfolded, that philosophy became visible, reflected in the confidence of local founders sharing their journeys and consumers discovering products made with care and cultural understanding.

Nairobi Beauty Week made a clear statement that African beauty matters, local brands deserve global attention, and true beauty is found in connection, joy and being seen.
