Family, friends and colleagues gathered in Naromoru to bid farewell to Joyce Wanjiru Karumba, the wife of celebrated gospel DJ Karumba Ngatia, popularly known as DJ Krowbar.

Joyce passed away on Monday, January 26, 2026, at around 3 am after a prolonged illness.

At the emotional Ankara-themed sendoff, she was remembered as a woman of deep faith, resilience and unwavering love.

Her family said that while they remain united in grief, they are strengthened by their faith and comforted by the belief that Joyce is now at peace.

“Thank you to our family, friends and colleagues for standing with us since Monday. To our international friends from the US, where Joy served as a global ambassador of art and style, we deeply appreciate you travelling all the way to be with us,” the family said.

They also expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support they have received since her passing.

DJ Krowbar’s mother broke down as she spoke about the close bond she shared with Joyce, describing her as a daughter.

“Ever since Joy was brought home, I was so happy to have another child. After Krowbar, she became my second child. I have lost my only daughter,” she said.

DJ Krowbar also paid tribute to his wife, reflecting on the deep love they shared and the immense void left by her passing.

Despite the loss, he reassured his children of his continued strength and support.

“To my children, you still have a strong pillar behind you. This is going to be our best year yet,” he said.

Hundreds of mourners turned up to honour Joyce, whose life and work touched many. The family has continued to ask for prayers, especially for DJ Krowbar and the children, as they navigate the difficult season.

Joyce had undergone a kidney transplant in mid-2025 and later developed complications, including a recent hospital readmission shortly after a brief stay at home.

During the memorial, DJ Krowbar reflected not only on his personal loss but also on Joyce’s lasting legacy, highlighting her commitment to education, community work and service to others.

She is survived by her husband and their three children, Toria, Riri and Imani.
