A Tesla Cybertruck that recently toured Kenya as part of a Guinness World Record attempt reportedly faced a tense security incident in Tanzania after being confronted by a group of unidentified individuals along the route.
In a video shared on X, the occupants of the Cybertruck are seen debating whether to proceed as several men alight from a parked bus and move towards the vehicle, appearing to position themselves to block its path.
The passengers, who were accompanied by a Maasai guide riding in the same vehicle, are heard being urged to stop and wait for authorities.
“Don’t go… let’s stop there, the policemen are coming. You can see these guys, we’ve reached here and they want to stone us, saying we denied them space,” the guide is heard saying in the clip.
The Cybertruck is part of the CyberLocos expedition, a team attempting to break the Guinness World Record for visiting the most countries in a single electric vehicle.
According to the team, the journey is aimed at showcasing the Cybertruck’s endurance and performance while giving people around the world a chance to see, touch and photograph the vehicle.
Tesla officially unveiled the Cybertruck in late 2023 after years of anticipation.
The all-electric pickup stands out for its sharp, angular design made from ultra-hard 30X cold-rolled stainless steel, the same material used in SpaceX rockets, giving it a futuristic, armoured look.
“This is a vehicle built for any planet,” Tesla CEO Elon Musk said at the launch, noting its ability to handle rough terrain, heavy loads and extreme conditions.
Depending on the variant, the Cybertruck is priced between Sh9.8 million and Sh16 million, with the high-performance model capable of accelerating from 0–100 km/h in just 2.6 seconds, powered by an output of up to 845 horsepower.
