Former Deputy President and Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua led the United Opposition brigade in Murang’a, where the issues of free and fair elections and ending violence in churches featured most prominently.

Gachagua said he has gathered evidence on how the Witima ACK attack on January 25 was organised, with a police shooter involved, which will be shared with the public.

“The video evidence will be shared by the end of the 16-day deadline for the planners to be brought to book,” said Gachagua, adding that Murang’a Woman Rep Betty Maina should abandon the trend of organising chaos for the sake of the community.

He said the United Opposition co-principals — Fred Matiang’i (Jubilee), Justin Muturi (DP), and Martha Karua (PLP) — have agreed to support one of them to run for the presidency and maintain unity.

He spoke during the burial of Jane Wanjiku Kamau, mother to former Kigumo MP Jamleck Kamau. Trade Cabinet Secretary Lee Kinyanjui was forced to leave early, before the end of the burial ceremony, after he was heckled while addressing the mourners

Matiang’i said the management of government affairs is chaotic, as the leaders have failed in their role.

“What is happening is taking issues in circles, thus the need for Kenyans to remain united and focused and deliberate on the success of the nation,” said Matiang’i as he read an eulogy from Uhuru Kenyatta

Karua castigated the government for supporting favouritism, citing it as a reason for the nation to remain united and make the right decisions in the future.

She said the split of votes will enable President William Ruto to secure a second term, to the detriment of the majority.

“Kenya will cast their votes and protect the votes; this can be achieved through unity,” said Karua, adding that the United Opposition co-principals should steer the way until the nomination of one flagbearer is held.

Muturi said the division of Mt Kenya East and Mt Kenya West was a political creation, and those campaigning for it will fail.

“Ruto is working to divide the mountain for his political interest through a known person,” said Muturi, adding that the government moved to abduct his son when he was Attorney General.

Former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju asked churches to initiate dialogue to save the country from violence.

He said county governments should not sabotage the spirit of devolution.

“If we are not careful, we shall break the country, as Mombasa county has formulated a law to charge containers heading upcountry through the port of Mombasa,” said Muturi.
