Kenyan artist and producer Mutoriah is back with a new body of work that challenges one of society’s most deeply held beliefs that money equals success.
His latest album, We Don’t Need Money To Be Rich, is a 13-track Afro-Electro Pop project that blends traditional influences with modern production while exploring themes of spirituality, purpose and fulfilment.
Across the album, Mutoriah argues that true wealth lies not in finances but in passion, faith and living a meaningful life.
The project opens with an intro before easing into ‘Tour Ira Bien’ and the title track, which lays down the album’s central idea.
From there, Mutoriah circles the theme from different angles, using each song to question material definitions of success.
Tracks such as ‘Hit Song’ and ‘Hello Mama’ are followed by a courtroom-style interlude that transitions into ‘Mùrimù Wa Wendo.’
The sequencing gives the album a narrative feel, as though listeners are being guided through a conversation rather than a collection of standalone songs.
A standout moment comes with ‘Day One,’ featuring Ayrosh, before the album moves into collaborations with Joshua Baraka on ‘Bora’ and Billy Black on ‘Baki Kidogo.’
The project continues with ‘Niamini’ and ‘Kavinya,’ featuring The Babaz, before closing on a celebratory note with ‘’Yes Loord!’
Live horn arrangements by Hornsphere run through the album, adding warmth and depth to the sound.
Much of the instrumentation is handled by Mutoriah’s backing band, The Movement, creating a rich, layered listening experience that complements the reflective tone of the lyrics.
Mutoriah says the album was written over an extended period and later finalised in Germany in 2024.
He describes the creative process as deeply spiritual, saying the direction of the album was shaped by what he considers a personal encounter with God.
Known for pushing beyond purely commercial themes, Mutoriah has built a reputation for music that leans into philosophical and spiritual reflection as much as rhythm and melody.
