Dandora police have recovered a high-powered pistol after a tip-off from members of the public helped officers track suspicious individuals in the area.
According to the National Police Service, at around 1:00 a.m. today, officers at Dandora Police Station received information that three men, believed to be armed, had been spotted in the Katoo area of Dandora Phase 5.
Acting swiftly, police rushed to the scene and spotted the suspects.
The men fled upon seeing the officers, leaving behind a jacket.
A search of the jacket led to the discovery of a Desert Eagle .50 AE Magnum pistol, which was found without ammunition.
The firearm was immediately retrieved and secured as an exhibit.
“The National Police Service commends the public for providing information and the officers for their quick response,” the statement said.
Authorities are now pursuing the suspects to apprehend them and arraign them in court.
The police say the operation forms part of an ongoing drive to crack down on criminal gangs and organised criminal groups, with public cooperation playing a key role in enabling swift action.
In September 2025, police in Nairobi arrested a man after recovering a firearm concealed inside a refrigerator in Utawala, Nairobi County.
Detectives said the Glock pistol, which was loaded with 17 rounds of ammunition, had been stashed in the freezer alongside food items.
According to a statement by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the arrest followed an intelligence-led operation on Friday by a team of officers from Embakasi Sub-County.
The officers raided a residence within Utawala, where they apprehended the suspect.
During the search, the detectives discovered the firearm hidden in the freezer compartment of the refrigerator.
“A team of law enforcement officers, led by detectives from Embakasi Sub-County, has apprehended one individual in the Utawala area of Nairobi County,” read the statement.
“During the operation, a Glock pistol loaded with seventeen rounds of ammunition was recovered. The firearm had been concealed inside a refrigerator.”
In pictures posted by the DCI, the firearm was seen concealed in the freezer section of the fridge alongside frozen packaged food in plastic bags that appeared to be githeri among other cereals.
Investigators believe the suspect used the refrigerator as a hiding place.
