Comedian Eric Omondi suffered a hip injury on the first day of his charity walk from Nairobi to Mombasa.

Eric, who is undertaking the 486-kilometre journey to raise funds for a new Help and Rescue Centre, covered 68 kilometres on day one, finishing in Machakos.

The physically demanding trek, however, left him with torn ligaments in his left leg and hip.

Despite the injury, Eric said he remains determined to complete the journey, which he hopes to finish by Valentine’s Day.

“Lazima tutafika Mombasa hata kama ni by fire. Today I tore/injured ligaments on my left leg and hip, but kesho tutaendelea hata kama tunacrawl. You can walk with me by sending whatever you can,” he wrote in an Instagram post.

“If you see that I am becoming overwhelmed, you can buy kilometres to support me; one kilometre costs Sh15,000. If you buy that kilometre, I do not have to walk for that distance,” he added.

The initiative aims to establish the first physical Help and Rescue Centre under his “Sisi kwa Sisi” foundation.

According to Eric, the facility will include a clinic, a free secondary school, a warehouse and two ambulances to support Kenyans in need.

He began the walk at Nairobi’s Nyayo Stadium, flagged off by gospel singer Daddy Owen and supported by a large crowd of fans.

As he made his way along Mombasa Road towards Machakos, he received encouragement from several celebrities, including Amber Ray, Churchill, Butita, Jeff Koinange and Murugi Munyi.

Through Sisi kwa Sisi, Eric has spent the past two years supporting grieving families, children in hardship areas and victims of police brutality, among others.
