Tanzanian songstress Nandy has warmed hearts online after stepping in to support a struggling young egg vendor, then returning weeks later to document his progress.
The emotional encounter began during an ordinary drive when the singer, popularly known as the African Princess, spotted a young man asleep on a pavement with a crate of eggs placed beside him.
The vendor, identified as Marik, told Nandy that exhaustion had overtaken him.
He explained that he was living with a friend and working for someone else, selling eggs for a monthly salary of Sh2,500 (Tsh 50,000), a figure that visibly shocked the singer.
Curious about his prospects, Nandy asked about the value of his stock. When Marik told her it was worth Sh1,500(Tsh 30,000), the exchange quickly turned into what many online described as an impromptu business lesson.
Instead of simply buying the eggs so he could rest, Nandy challenged him to think bigger.
“Why not look for capital so you can run your own business, employ someone, and earn the profits yourself?” she asked.
Marik said access to capital would help him stabilise his life, work consistently for a few months and eventually secure better housing. At that moment, Nandy, who is currently promoting her new single Asante Baba, decided to act.
She handed him Sh5,000 (Tsh 100,000), to help him start his own egg business.
She recorded the interaction and later shared it on her social media platforms, where the video went viral and drew praise from netizens who lauded her generosity and practical mentorship.
Two weeks later, Nandy returned to check on Marik’s progress.
This time, cameras captured a marked improvement. He had moved into a modest one-room house and was steadily growing his business.
Pleased with his progress, the singer urged her fans to support Marik whenever they came across him selling eggs.
The follow-up visit further boosted public admiration, with many praising Nandy’s emphasis on empowerment and accountability.
