Ugandan musician Jose Chameleone has undergone eye surgery after rapidly losing sight in his right eye, sparking fresh concern over his health.
In a post shared on Instagram, Chameleone said his vision had deteriorated quickly before the procedure.
“I thank God for another great morning. I also thank Dr Ludovica Tindebwa and the entire Kampala Eye Lasik Hospital team for my eye surgery and your hospitality. I was rapidly losing my sight in my right eye. I seek your healing as always my Lord,” he wrote.
Health concerns surrounding the singer date back to 2023, when he was bedridden for weeks due to an undisclosed illness.
That year, he was admitted to Aline Medical Hospital in the United States for stomach-related complications. He was later discharged and resumed performing.
Before travelling to the US, the singer had also been hospitalised at Nakasero Hospital after suffering liver and pancreatic complications. He was discharged a week later.
Chameleone is celebrated for his contribution to East Africa’s music scene, blending reggae, afrobeat and dancehall. Over his career, he has released more than 20 albums, including Badilisha and Wale Wale.
The “Valu Valu” hitmaker has won several accolades, among them the All Africa Music Awards, Kisima Music Awards and the Pearl of Africa Music Awards.
