Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua took a break from the political spotlight on Thursday evening to celebrate a major family milestone: the birthday of his son, Dr. Keith Ikinu.

In a social media post that quickly drew attention, Gachagua shared glimpses of a “nostalgic evening” at the legendary Carnivore Simba Salon in Nairobi.

The former DP, known for his vocal stance on family values, described himself as “overjoyed” to be surrounded by his kin as they treated “Daktari Keith” to a sumptuous dinner.

For Gachagua, the choice of venue was not just about the world-famous Nyama Choma; it was a trip back to 1984.

“The Carnivore has retained its reputation as the restaurant of choice for excellent service, tasty recipes, ambience, and very friendly staff since my visit in 1984,” Gachagua reminisced.

He fondly recalled his younger days at the establishment, where he “enjoyed Choma and danced the nights away.”

The post featured photos of the Gachagua family, including his wife, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, and their sons. The images captured a relaxed and smiling family; a stark contrast to the high-stakes political environment Gachagua has navigated since his impeachment in late 2024 and his subsequent launch of the DCP Kenya party in 2025.

Dr. Keith Ikinu, the man of the hour, has often been described as the “brains” behind several family ventures. A medical doctor by profession and an alumnus of Alliance High School and the University of Nairobi, Keith has increasingly become a visible figure by his father’s side.

While he has faced his share of public scrutiny alongside his brother Kevin, the birthday celebration focused purely on the “gift of family.”

“I thank God for the gift of family… What a nostalgic evening with my family. Happy birthday Daktari Keith!” posted Rigathi Gachagua on his socials.
