Police are investigating three separate drowning incidents involving four victims, all reported on Thursday.

The victims included minors.

The first incident occurred in Kiganjo, Gatundu, Kiambu County, where the body of 19-year-old George Gitonga was found in Thirika River.

Police said it is not clear how he drowned. His body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.

In Kopsiro, Bungoma County, a nine-year-old boy drowned in River Terem. Police said he was a Grade One pupil at Chepyuk Primary School.

He is believed to have drowned on Wednesday while trying to walk home from school following heavy rainfall. Concerned family members staged a search when he did not return home.

Witnesses and police said the body had bruises on the head and legs. It was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.

In Ntulele, Narok County, two male children drowned in a village dam on February 19 while swimming. The victims, aged ten and seven, were pupils at Inkinye Primary School. Police said their bodies were recovered and moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

Police note that drowning is emerging as one of the leading causes of death in the country, with at least one case reported daily.

Separately, police are investigating a suspected murder in Kendu Bay, Homa Bay County. The body of 60-year-old James Mboya was found on February 16 in his house, lying in a pool of blood.

Police said the sitting room had blood stains, and Mboya had a deep cut on his forehead.

Family members said he lived alone and did not know who was behind the murder or the motive. His body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.
