Police are investigating an incident in which a 21-year-old man was burnt to death in a village in Gatanga, Murang’a County.
Police said the incident occurred in Kagio village on the morning of February 19 and claimed the life of Joseph Ndaba Wanjiku.
According to police, two residential houses belonging to the deceased were burned before the fire was contained by locals and a fire engine.
After the fire was extinguished, the man’s body was found inside one of the houses, burned beyond recognition. Police said property of unknown value was also destroyed in the fire.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and investigations.
In a separate incident, a 94-year-old man was found dead inside a house after being burned in a fire in Gachoka, Embu County.
Police said Murage Ndaru was alone in the house when the fire broke out on February 18. The cause of the fire was not immediately known. The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.
In Karau, Embu County, the body of a man was found in Gitika village in what police described as a suspected murder.
The deceased was later identified as Simon Nyaga, 69. Police said his motorcycle was found next to the body, which was moved to the mortuary.
In Thiba, Kirinyaga County, police are investigating an incident in which a man was beaten and lost six teeth during a dispute over Sh700.
The victim told police that a woman known to him, and to whom he owed the money, called a group of men who assaulted him. He also sustained head injuries and was taken to hospital for medical attention.
Police said they were looking for the suspected assailants.
In Migori County, a female miner died at a gold mining site in Kehancha after a wall collapsed.
Police said Veronica Mosoba, 35, was among a group of miners at the site when the wall caved in, trapping her.
She was rushed to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Police said they are investigating the incident.
