A polytechnic student died by suicide after losing his mobile phone in unclear circumstances in Nyanuguti village, Kisii County.

Police said Pius Makori, 22, was a first-year student. His body was found on Thursday hanging from a tree, with a rope tied around his neck.

He reportedly lost his mobile phone at a local shopping area the previous day and was unable to recover it.

Police said this may have contributed to his decision to take his own life, despite efforts by his family to comfort him.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending further procedures. Police noted that six other suicide incidents were reported in different locations on Thursday. 

Meanwhile, in Getare, Nyamira County, police are investigating the killing of a 53-year-old man by his nephew during an altercation. George Makori sustained deep cuts to the chest and hands and died at the scene at their home.

The assailant reportedly fled after the incident. The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy, and police are searching for the suspect.

In Kathiani, Machakos County, a 39-year-old mason, Kelvin Ondabu, died after falling from the roof of a house under construction.

Police said he was using a ladder that broke, causing him to fall and sustain a fatal head injury on February 27. His body was taken to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

In Kipipiri, Nyandarua County, human bones were discovered on a plot where workers were digging for a house foundation. The landowner said the remains belonged to a man who died and was buried there in 1998.

The bones were moved to the mortuary for further investigation, police said.
