Wizkid beats Burna Boy, leads Africa with 13.19 million album sales

Nigerian superstar Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, has officially overtaken Burna Boy to become Africa’s top-selling artist, reaching 13.19 million Equivalent Album Sales (EAS).

The milestone marks a historic moment for Afrobeats, cementing Wizkid’s dominance after years of close competition.

ChartMasters, a leading analytics platform, updated its all-time best-sellers list in early March 2026, placing Wizkid at No. 544 worldwide with 13.18–13.19 million EAS units. EAS measures comprehensive consumption, combining physical sales, downloads, and streaming equivalents using the CSPC method.

Burna Boy now sits just behind at No. 547.

Social media erupted between March 1 and 3, with announcements across Instagram reels and news sites, including Hype Tribe NG and Arise TV.

The 36-year-old’s ascent stems from a stellar catalogue, with albums like Made in Lagos (2020) and its deluxe edition generating massive streams, while features on Drake’s One Dance and Beyoncé’s The Lion King: The Gift soundtrack amassed billions of plays.

Recent hits, including “Jorogo” with Asake and Morayo, pushed his totals even higher. By late 2025, he already led Africa with 81 million certified units, ahead of Cheb Khaled, according to NBGAfrica rankings. This EAS crown solidifies his lead over peers.

Burna Boy, the Grammy-winning African Giant, trails closely with strong EAS from Twice as Tall, Love, Damini, and hits like “Last Last.” His global tours and collaborations with Stormzy and Ed Sheeran fueled growth, but Wizkid’s streaming edge proved decisive.

Nigerian Bulletin and Africa Facts Zone highlighted the overtake, sparking fan debates online. The rivalry illustrates Afrobeats’ growing force, with Wizkid and Burna Boy ranking among the top 600 global artists ever, per ChartMasters. Davido follows on top-10 African lists, with NBGAfrica noting the trio’s collective certified units nearing hundreds of millions.

From Lagos clubs to Coachella stages, their success attracts investment and underscores African music’s commercial strength. With Wizkid’s latest win, fans are watching to see if Burna Boy will bounce back or if Davido will take the top spot next.
