A Kenyan nurse working in the United States has been arrested and charged after being accused of sexually assaulting a vulnerable patient in a hospital in Orlando, Florida.

The suspect, identified as Abedinecho Kyalo Katue, 46, was taken into custody this week by officers from the Orlando Police Department following months of investigation into the alleged incident at AdventHealth hospital along East Rollins Street.

According to an arrest affidavit, the case dates back to January 2025 when police were called to the hospital after a patient reported that she had been sexually assaulted while under medical care.

The victim, whose right leg had been amputated and whose left foot was in a cast, told investigators that Katue — who was assigned as her nurse — repeatedly entered her hospital room late at night and in the early hours of the morning. She alleged that he complimented her appearance and told her he wanted to take “special care” of her.

The woman claimed that the nurse later touched and penetrated her with his finger under the guise of checking her genitals, despite the fact that the procedure she had undergone was unrelated to that part of her body.

Investigators say the victim secretly recorded some of the interactions. In one of the recordings reviewed by police, Katue is allegedly heard telling the patient: *“I can’t remember the last time I took care of such a young, black, beautiful girl like you.”

Authorities say the situation escalated when the woman reported that Katue forced his way into her room while she was using a bedpan, fondled her and insisted the behaviour was “normal.”

She further alleged that he administered morphine through her IV without her consent in an attempt to keep her quiet.

After a lengthy investigation, police issued a warrant for Katue’s arrest last year. However, he was only apprehended on Monday when an officer reportedly spotted his white Range Rover along Orange Blossom Trail and confirmed that he was a wanted suspect.

Katue is now facing multiple charges, including sexual battery on a physically incapacitated person and lewd or lascivious battery on a disabled individual. Jail records show he is currently being held without bond as the case proceeds through the U.S. justice system.
