A middle-aged man died in a fire in Nairobi’s Ngando, Riruta area on Wednesday night.
The blaze started in a furniture store before spreading rapidly to nearby structures, destroying more than 40 buildings, police said.
Firefighters rushed to the scene and contained the fire. The man’s body was discovered in one of the flattened structures, police added.
The remains were taken to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.
In Kithimu, Embu County, the body of a man was found floating in a dam following a suspected murder.
The body, later identified as Michael Gicovi Ndwiga, was decomposed when discovered on Wednesday evening. Police said it had been tied in a sack with two large stones to prevent it from floating.
The man had a deep cut on his throat. No arrests had been made by Thursday, and investigations were ongoing.
In Musoli, Kakamega County, the body of 27-year-old Tyson Mavihala was retrieved from the bank of River Yala after a suspected murder. Police said the body was decomposed and was taken to the mortuary for an autopsy and further investigations.
In Mwiki, Nairobi, a man’s body was found floating in the Nairobi River in a suspected drowning. Authorities are investigating, and the remains were taken to the mortuary pending identification and autopsy.
In Mulika, Meru County, a five-year-old girl who was a PP2 pupil drowned in a stream while playing with friends on March 5. Her body was retrieved hours later and taken to the mortuary, police said.
In Nyeri County, a woman was found murdered inside her home in Mathari area. Charity Wangeci Muhita’s body was discovered hidden under her bed at Transformer Village after relatives, concerned that she was not answering calls, arrived at the house.
The motive for the killing was not immediately known. Her body was taken to the mortuary pending an autopsy.
In Githumu, Muranga County, 32-year-old Joseph Njoroge Wanjiku died from injuries sustained when a tree he was helping direct while being cut fell on him.
The man operating the power saw reportedly fled the scene. The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures, police said.
