“Empire” actor Bryshere Yazuan Gray, best known for playing Hakeem Lyon, is currently in Nairobi, Kenya.
In viral videos seen by TNX Africa, the 32-year-old was spotted at local entertainment spots since Saturday, March 14.
At one of the clubs, the ‘Sprinter’ actor wore a white tank top, wide-legged white pants, and shades.
He engaged with fans outside before being escorted in by two security officers in suits, followed by a crowd of revellers.
Fans shouted his nickname, “Yazz,” as he made his way to the DJ booth, where they danced and enjoyed themselves.
In another video, Gray was seen enjoying Nairobi nightlife at another joint.
Dressed in a black striped basketball jersey and brown jeans, he appeared to be having fun alongside a young woman wearing a black leather jacket, top, boots, and grey skirt.
Kenyans on social media shared mixed reactions.
Bwana Zayd on Instagram wrote, “That’s why napenda Kenya. My country, my motherland.”
Mikelson added, “Wenye hawajawatch Empire hapa hamutoboi.” User Just Njery chimed in, “Hakeeemmmm is in Kenya. I love ittt.”
Another, Wafula Hillary, asked, “Who is this though?”
Despite being celebrated for his role on Empire, Gray has faced challenges since the show ended in 2020.
According to TMZ, his career stalled after a series of legal and personal issues.
In 2021, he was sentenced to ten days in jail and three years’ probation after pleading guilty to domestic violence. He was later arrested in 2022 for violating probation.
Most recently, in mid-2025, Gray faced assault and battery charges following a fight in Chesapeake, Virginia, according to Deadline.
Outside legal troubles, he has appeared in films including The New Edition Story (2017) and Honey: Rise Up and Dance (2018).
