Pastor or performer? Kanyari trending after singing ‘Mafrrmbanya’ mid-service

Pastor Victor Kanyari has sparked controversy online after singing the secular song “Mafrrmbanya” by Breeder LW and Unspoken Salaton during a church service.

In a viral video seen by TNX Africa, Kanyari can be heard singing parts of the song, drawing laughter from the congregation, and joking about his daughter enjoying the track.

“Kuna msichana wangu anapenda hizo nyimbo sana. Vijana aki hii age yenu inatukimbiza sana,” he said, referencing Urbantone music.

The video has divided Kenyans on social media, with many questioning his preaching style and others joking about the incident.

On Instagram, Jay asked, “Huyu ni pastor ama ako attachment?” while Lakeside Girl commented, “Does he ever preach the word of God from the bible?” Clout Wallace added,

“Unaenda kwa church usamehewe dhambi alafu unatoka na dhambi ingine.”

Kanyari, who leads the Salvation Healing Ministry in Nairobi, is no stranger to public debate.

He first gained nationwide attention in 2014 over a scandal involving “seed” money donations, where he was accused of staging fake miracles to solicit Sh310 from followers.

Despite investigations and public backlash, he has maintained a high profile in Kenya’s religious scene.

He has also recently been linked to Marion Naipei, whose own viral scandal in January 2026 drew widespread outrage.

A video showing Naipei being handled inappropriately at a Nairobi club, without her consent, raised discussions on digital privacy and consent.

Now a congregant at Kanyari’s church, her apparent closeness to the pastor has sparked online speculation about their relationship, though neither has publicly confirmed any personal involvement.
