Comedian and activist Eric Omondi has once again tapped into the energy of young people, this time blending entertainment with civic engagement through a new initiative dubbed the Tuko Kadi Concert.

The announcement follows the recent “Tuko Kadi” wave that has seen large numbers of young Kenyans turn up for voter registration ahead of the 2027 General Election, signalling a renewed interest in civic participation.

In a post shared across his social media platforms, Omondi asked: “Which artist do you want to see perform on 1st May during the TUKO KADI CONCERT. Remember kuingia NI KADI!!! IEBC watakua hapo kama hauna KADI unachukua unaingia.”

According to his message, entry to the concert will require a voter’s card. For those without one, officials from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) will be on site to facilitate registration, turning the event into both an entertainment experience and a civic exercise.

Omondi had also cautioned politicians against attempting to hijack the movement. “If you think you can hijack ‘Tuko Kadi’, think again,” he warned, emphasising that the initiative is youth-driven and independent.

This was hours after he also launched “Tuko Kadi” Club Tour in Kisumu.

Across the country, a growing wave of youthful energy is becoming evident. Hundreds have been turning up at IEBC offices under the #NikoKadi and #TukoKadi campaigns, reflecting a shift from online activism to real-world action.

The movement has led to the creation of multiple conversations on various platforms coordinating registration efforts from constituencies down to village level.

Online response to the concert idea suggests it is resonating strongly. Many young Kenyans see it not just as a chance to attend a show, but as an opportunity to take part in shaping their future.

While the headline acts for the May 1 concert are yet to be announced, the broader message is already clear: young people are no longer waiting to be included in national conversations, they are actively creating their own platforms and driving change from the ground up.
