MultiChoice has announced that Showmax Originals will move to DStv Stream following the closure of the Showmax service on 30 April.

The shift is aimed at keeping the streaming platform’s African content available while consolidating it with live TV, sport, and international series on a single app.

According to the statement, as seen by TNX, Showmax subscribers will be offered trial access to DStv Stream Compact until 30 May.

After the trial, selected customers will have the option to continue at KES 550 per month for 12 months, provided their payments remain up to date.

Showmax subscriptions will not automatically transfer, and users must sign up for DStv Stream to continue access.

Those who do not wish to migrate can request a refund for any unused portion of their subscription.

“Showmax helped unlock a wave of world-class African storytelling,” says Nzola Miranda, Managing Director, MultiChoice Kenya.

“Series like Single Kiasi, Real Housewives of Nairobi, Reckless, and The Mommy Club NBO, along with productions from across the continent, were created through collaboration between MultiChoice’s content teams and local producers. That commitment to African storytelling does not change.”

“Our priority is to ensure customers continue to have a home for the stories they love. By bringing thousands of hours of Showmax Originals and a deeper on-demand library into DStv Stream, we are creating a more holistic experience where live sport, news, the best international content, and award-winning local drama live together.” added Mr. Miranda.

The DStv Stream platform also provides international series, movies, kids’ programming, and live sport via SuperSport, which includes coverage of competitions such as the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, and LaLiga.

The transition marks the end of Showmax as a standalone service in Kenya, but MultiChoice says it will maintain support for African storytelling through DStv Stream.
