Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo has called on Kenyans to prioritise safety and security during the Easter holiday period, urging citizens to remain vigilant as they mark the religious celebrations.

In a message issued ahead of the long holiday, Omollo extended Easter wishes to Kenyans, noting that the season is a time of reflection, hope, sacrifice and renewal.

“This season reminds us of hope, sacrifice and new beginnings, and calls on each of us to uphold peace, unity and responsibility to one another,” he said.

Easter, which runs from Good Friday to Easter Monday, is one of the busiest travel periods in the country, often marked by increased movement of people, school holidays and social gatherings.

Omollo emphasised the need for heightened awareness, particularly as schools remain closed during the period.

He urged parents and guardians to take extra precautions to ensure children are safe and well cared for before they return to school.

“As families come together to celebrate, let us take responsibility for the safety of our children and ensure they return to school safely, without incident,” he said.

The PS also appealed to Kenyans to support security agencies by cooperating with law enforcement officers and reporting suspicious activities in their communities.

“As we celebrate, I urge everyone to prioritise safety and security. Let us remain vigilant, act responsibly and support our security agencies in maintaining order across the country,” he added.

At the same time, Omollo raised concern over road safety, a recurring issue during festive seasons that often sees a spike in accidents due to increased travel.

He called on motorists, pedestrians and all road users to exercise caution, discipline and patience to reduce the risk of accidents.

“I also call upon all road users to exercise caution and discipline to keep our roads safe during this period,” he said.

The Interior Ministry has in the past heightened security operations during major holidays, deploying additional officers and surveillance measures to enhance public safety.

Omollo reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring security across all regions, noting that development and stability go hand in hand.

He encouraged citizens to work closely with leaders and authorities in fostering peace and national cohesion.

“As we continue to walk this journey together as a nation, let us engage our leaders and support initiatives aimed at ensuring no region is left behind in development,” he said.

He wished all Kenyans a peaceful and safe Easter holiday, urging them to celebrate responsibly while keeping the well-being of others in mind.

“Wishing you a peaceful and safe Easter,” he said.
