Kenyan-born, US-based artist King Kanja will release his latest single and video, Daima Mkenya, on June 1, 2026, to coincide with Madaraka Day.
Marked annually on June 1, Madaraka Day commemorates Kenya attaining internal self-rule in 1963, a key milestone on the path to independence.
The day is often used to reflect on national identity, unity and progress.
Daima Mkenya draws on these themes, with the artist positioning the track as a reflection on identity and belonging in contemporary Kenya. The song blends contemporary African sounds with messages of unity and national pride. Production credits include Karun and Run Music.
Shot at the helipad of the Kenyatta International Convention Centre in Nairobi, its music video features a cross-section of Kenyan society.
Its release is accompanied by a collaboration with the Daima Mkenya clothing brand, which will drop a limited-edition apparel line inspired by the project. During the event, a series of promotional activities will also take place, including dance activations in Nairobi’s central business district and broader digital engagement targeting young audiences.
King Kanja is a Kenyan-born, US-based artist known for his “Muchoki” sound, a fusion of Hip Hop, R&B, and Afrobeats that often incorporates his Kikuyu heritage.
He gained significant recognition for his global hit “Weekend” and his collaboration with Bobby V on “Aura,” becoming a prominent cultural bridge between the African diaspora and the international music scene.
Beyond his vocal work, he has founded King Kanja Empire, a platform he uses to promote East African music and culture on the world stage.
