Wireless Festival cancelled after Kanye West barred from UK over antisemitism

The 2026 edition of Wireless Festival has been cancelled after headliner Kanye West, now known as Ye, was barred from entering the United Kingdom.

In a statement on X, Wireless organisers said: “As a result of the Home Office banning YE from entering the United Kingdom, Wireless Festival has been forced to cancel. All ticket holders will receive an automatic full refund.”

The UK government cited concerns over West’s recent controversies, saying his presence would not be in the public’s best interest. For years, West has faced backlash over antisemitic, racist and pro-Nazi remarks, which intensified scrutiny around his planned London performance.

Wireless reiterated that the festival would no longer go ahead and that all tickets would be refunded. The organisers said multiple stakeholders had been consulted before booking West, with no objections raised at the time.

“Antisemitism in all its forms is abhorrent, and we recognise the real and personal impact these issues have had,” the statement read.

“As Ye said today, he acknowledges that words alone are not enough, and in spite of this still hopes to be given the opportunity to begin a conversation with the Jewish community in the UK.”

West has recently sought to return to the spotlight.

In January, he issued a lengthy apology in an interview with The Wall Street Journal, and last week performed two sold-out shows at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, telling fans: “Tonight we’re going to put all this behind us, ain’t that right LA?”

Ahead of Wireless, West expressed willingness to engage with the UK Jewish community, saying Tuesday: “I know words aren’t enough. I’ll have to show change through my actions. If you’re open, I’m here.”

According to BBC, Melvin Benn, managing director of Festival Republic, said efforts to meet with Jewish groups were unsuccessful.

A spokesperson for the Board of Deputies of British Jews disputed this: “Neither the Board of Deputies nor, we understand, the Jewish Leadership Council has refused any request to meet with the Wireless festival organisers. When the Board received a letter from Melvin Benn on 6 April, proposing to meet, we responded positively.”

With the Home Office’s intervention, the cancellation was ultimately out of both West’s and Festival Republic’s hands.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer commented: “Kanye West should never have been invited to headline Wireless. This government stands firmly with the Jewish community, and we will not stop in our fight to confront and defeat the poison of antisemitism. We will always take the action necessary to protect the public and uphold our values.”
