Street sensation Ferdinand Omondi, popularly known as Mbavu Destroyer, is winning hearts off the ring after moving his mother into a new home and hosting a heartfelt thanksgiving event that has netizens applauding his generosity.

In a series of videos shared on his social media platforms, Mbavu posted a touching photo with his mother and was later seen celebrating with dozens of children and neighbours in an atmosphere filled with food, laughter and gratitude.

“Once a champion, always a champion. Thanks mom for believing in me since day one. And now it’s time to pay back with a smile on your face. Congratulations on your new house, mommy,” he wrote.

The viral figure went a step further, distributing packets of unga to families in his neighbourhood—an act many online have described as “real giving back.”

“East Dimanga ni jamo, hata univunje njwang’a lazima ni make sure that our momma are always happy. Just a smile on their face is all that I need. Nimejaa ngori na itakuwa mbaya,” Mbavu posted, staying true to his raw, streetwise persona.

Mbavu shot to fame with his “Weka Mawe” catchphrase, capturing attention with his unfiltered charisma and high-energy content that resonates with the streets. During the thanksgiving, he also acknowledged fellow content creators who showed up in support, including 2Mbili, Sammy Ro and Remcy Don.

“Thanks to everyone who showed up… that’s how brothers are supposed to be. Let’s learn to share with the community the little we have. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but one day I’m gonna be a champion. I promise,” he added.

Neighbours who attended the event could not hide their appreciation, with one praising Mbavu for his kindness and resilience:

“Mbavu tumeshukuru sana leo umetualika, tumekula nyama, samaki, everything. Nakuombea Mungu upone haraka. Going forward, some good things are on the way. Congratulations on how you are making your neighbours happy.”

The thanksgiving comes just days after Mbavu stepped into the ring for the much-hyped “Vurugu Fight Night” clash against Portifas Odipo, alias Majembe, held last weekend at the Kasarani Indoor Arena in Nairobi. Mbavu lost the bout via a fourth-round technical knockout (TKO), but his spirit appears far from broken.

In fact, the fighter-turned-internet star has already hinted at a comeback, saying he plans to return stronger once fully healed.

The event also drew national attention, with William Ruto, through Lang’ata MP Felix Odiwuor, fulfilling a Sh4 million pledge—allocating Sh1 million to each fighter and sponsoring 2,000 tickets for fans, among other contributions.
