Last weekend, the Carnivore Grounds transformed into a sanctuary of sound and precision as musical legend Nyashinski concluded his historic “The Showman Residency.”
Announced in November 2025, the residency promised a “uniquely choreographed and well-rehearsed stage performance,” and by the final curtain call on Sunday, April 12, 2026, it was clear the “Malaika” hitmaker had redefined the Kenyan concert experience.
The finale kicked off at exactly 8:00 PM, following a strict countdown that signalled a shift in the local event culture.
The night opened with a stirring, well-composed poetry set that acted as a spiritual bridge to the main act.
When Nyashinski, born Nyamari Ongegu, finally took the stage, the technical execution was flawless.
From crisp sound engineering to lighting that synced perfectly with every transition, the production value was a masterclass in artistry.
“Naido for the culture Mimi, culture inacatch. Nishatoa ma-single, unataka project, yangu ni art,” Nyashinski sang, opening the set with a nod to his craft.
The audience, dressed in the residency’s theme colours of Red, Black, and White, was swept up in a curated journey through Nyashinski’s discography.
For many, the experience was emotional.
“I sang my heart out like I was part of the setlist,” noted attendee Aim Moyi. “Tears flowed not because I was sad, but because I could feel with the owner of the song. The performer is who he thinks he is!”
Joy Mburu, another fan in attendance, praised the rare logistical excellence of the event:
“The seamless experience from ticketing to sitting was well organised. Even with a regular ticket, I was impressed by the provision of seats, which is rare at Kenyan concerts. My highlight was hearing tracks from the Lucky You album. The tribute paid to heroes was legendary.”
Following the triumphant conclusion of the residency, Nyashinski shared a heartfelt message with The Village (his fan base), reflecting on the spiritual and communal success of the project.
“I remember being on cloud 9 immediately after Shin City. We swore nothing would surpass it until we experienced The Showman Residency. A first-of-its-kind work of art, fusing so many different elements, made possible by YOU and our big, beautiful family, The Village. Do not be sad that it’s over, be happy that it happened and hopeful for more amazing things in the future, God willing,” he wrote in a Facebook post.
“To everyone who made this a reality, every fan, the team, volunteers, our partners, and even our supporters who couldn’t make it physically but constantly kept us in their prayers. Thank you for making my dream come true. Thank God for every blessing,” he added.
The Showman Residency was a total shift in the Kenyan live performance game, living true to its description of a “uniquely choreographed and well-rehearsed stage performance,” crafted to treat both longtime supporters and new audiences to a richly curated live experience.
