Bongo Star Search founder Rita Paulsen, popularly known as Madam Rita, is under intense public scrutiny after dismissing an online media outlet as “quack,” sparking outrage across Tanzania’s entertainment and media circles.
The incident unfolded during the Miss World Tanzania event at Superdome in Masaki, where Madam Rita declined an interview request from Mike 360, stating she does not engage with what she termed “low-quality media.”
The remark quickly spread online, drawing criticism from celebrities, artists and journalists, who viewed it as dismissive and disrespectful to emerging media platforms.
Facing mounting backlash, Madam Rita took to social media to issue a public apology, acknowledging her misstep and appealing for understanding.
“Human beings are created to make mistakes, and yesterday I unintentionally slipped. I apologize to Mike 360 Media and to anyone who was offended by my statement, which I made while in a bad mood. All of you in the media are my stakeholders, and let’s continue working together.”
Despite the apology, reactions remain divided. While some have accepted her statement and called for moving forward, others argue it falls short, with a few even threatening to subject her to “cancel culture.”
The controversy has reignited debate about respect within the media industry, particularly the relationship between established figures and emerging digital platforms.
As the discussion continues, attention is now on whether Madam Rita can rebuild trust with the media community she publicly dismissed.
