Renowned Kikuyu gospel artist and philanthropist Karangu Muraya was overcome with emotion during the final send-off of his late brother, Paul Kareithi Muraya.

In a video seen by TNX Africa, the singer, flanked by close family and friends, wept bitterly as he was led to the casket for the body viewing.

The grief was palpable as the musician, known for his upbeat personality and extensive charity work, struggled to come to terms with the loss of his sibling.

The burial, in Kagioni village, Murang’a County, drew hundreds of mourners, celebrities and fans who turned up to support the family. The ceremony was presided over by popular JCM preacher Benson Gathungu, known widely as Muthee Kiengei.

For the past week, Karangu has used his social media platforms to openly mourn Kareithi, sharing intimate family moments and expressing the deep void left by his departure.

“Bro… we will really miss you,” he shared in a poignant post featuring a collage of their shared memories, just a day ago.

The family’s grief was equally acknowledged at the highest level of government.

President William Ruto sent a heartfelt tribute to the family, describing Kareithi as a pillar of the community.

In his message, the President noted that Kareithi would be remembered for his industrious spirit and his dedication as a professional long-distance truck driver.

“Paul will be remembered for his industrious spirit, his dedication as a professional long-distance truck driver, and his deep love for family and country,” Ruto said.

Karangu Muraya is a household name in the Kikuyu scene and beyond, having risen from humble beginnings to become one of the most influential gospel artists and philanthropists in the country.

His journey is a classic “rags-to-riches” story.

Before finding fame, Karangu worked various manual jobs, including selling mutura in Nairobi’s Kayole estate and hawking cosmetics and pineapples.

His breakthrough came through his music, with his vernacular gospel hits resonating deeply with the masses.

Beyond his music, Karangu is widely celebrated for his humanitarian efforts.

Through his massive social media following, he has spearheaded numerous online fundraisers to help the less fortunate pay medical bills, build homes, and fund education.

Despite occasionally finding himself at the center of online controversies regarding his personal life and political associations, his influence in the philanthropic space remains significant.
