To celebrate 20 years in the industry, Fally Ipupa has released his ambitious new album, “XX.”
Dropped on April 17, this 20-track project marks the first instalment of a double-album celebration, reflecting two decades of evolution since his 2006 debut, Droit Chemin.
While Ipupa is a pillar of Congolese rumba, “XX” takes a distinctly urban direction.
The album blends Afropop, R&B, and contemporary sounds, featuring a powerhouse lineup of international collaborators including Wizkid on the lead single “Jam,” as well as Angélique Kidjo, Joé Dwèt Filé, SDM, Guy2Bezbar, DJ Maphorisa, and KeBlack.
High-end production from Trésor Riziki, Dany Synthé, and Seysey ensures a polished global sound, yet Ipupa remains rooted in his heritage through Lingala lyrics and signature guitar melodies.
Fans of his traditional sound won’t have to wait long for a return to form, as the second installment, “XX Delirium,” is set for release on June 10.
This follow-up will feature 21 tracks dedicated entirely to Congolese rumba, honoring the genre that launched his career and offering a deeper connection to his longtime supporters.
Ipupa’s statistical impact is staggering, boasting over three billion streams and 2.5 billion YouTube views.
His status as a global icon was cemented in 2023 when he became the first African solo artist to sell out the Paris La Défense Arena. To mark this milestone, he is scheduled for a historic two-night residency at the Stade de France on May 2 and 3, 2026, with a world tour to follow across the UK, Europe, and North America.
Beyond the stage, Ipupa continues his work as a humanitarian leader. Serving as an ambassador for both UNESCO and UNICEF, he uses his massive platform to advocate for social change, ensuring his legacy is defined by both his musical mastery and his global advocacy.
