A chilling video has emerged capturing the moments leading up to the killing of former beauty pageant winner and 2017 Miss Teen Universe Baja California Carolina Flórez Gómez, allegedly at the hands of her mother-in-law.
According to footage published by international outlets, including New York Post and Reporte Indigo, the 27-year-old is seen walking from the living room to her bedroom, dressed in a white robe, on the day of the incident. Her mother-in-law follows closely behind with her hands in her pockets. Moments later, multiple gunshots ring out.
In another segment of the footage, Gómez’s husband, Alejandro Sánchez, emerges from another room carrying their infant child. The suspect is heard saying, “She made me angry.”
After confirming his wife’s death, Sánchez says in disbelief, “She is my family,” to which his mother responds, “You are mine. That woman stole you.”
Further details from the case identify the suspect as Érika María Herrera Coriant, 63. Authorities allege that the fatal shooting took place on April 15 inside the couple’s apartment in the Polanco neighbourhood of Mexico City.
A separate 45-second clip recorded by a living room security camera shows Gómez, dressed in pajamas and slippers, walking across the room while her mother-in-law stands nearby. The two appear to exchange brief, inaudible words before moving toward the kitchen. Seconds later, a gunshot is heard, followed by screams and five additional shots.
Érika María is then seen calmly exiting the kitchen and encountering her son, who is holding their eight-month-old baby. “What did you do, Mom?” he asks. She responds, “Nothing, she made me angry.” After Sánchez looks inside and discovers his wife’s body, he says, “She is my family.” His mother replies, “She is my family too. You were mine she stole you from me.” The footage ends shortly after.
The case has sparked widespread outrage and controversy. According to the Mexico City Attorney General’s Office, a formal complaint was filed on April 16 a day after the killing by Sánchez, who directly accused his mother.
The Mexico City Prosecutor’s Office has confirmed that investigations are ongoing. Both Sánchez and his mother were reportedly present in the apartment at the time of Gómez’s death, according to reports by Univision.
Gómez, who won the Miss Teen Universe Baja California title in 2017, was also known as a model and content creator, often sharing glimpses of her daily life on social media. She had recently given birth to a baby boy.
