A United States Secret Service officer is facing administrative leave after his arrest for allegedly exposing himself and engaging in lewd conduct at a Miami hotel.
The incident occurred shortly after the officer finished a security detail for former President Donald Trump during his visit to South Florida.
Florida authorities identified the suspect as 33-year-old John Andrew Spillman. Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested him just after midnight on Monday at a DoubleTree hotel near Miami International Airport.
The arrest followed reports from hotel guests who claimed Spillman began behaving suspiciously earlier in the evening.
Victims told investigators they were in the lobby when Spillman started following them in a manner they described as threatening.
The group retreated to their room out of fear for their safety. One woman informed deputies that she had been followed from the lobby all the way to the sixth floor.
The situation escalated when guests later spotted Spillman engaging in lewd behaviour near their hotel room, after which security responded to the floor and reportedly found the officer with his trousers lowered.
Security staff told deputies they witnessed the inappropriate conduct firsthand at the end of the sixth-floor hallway. Spillman was off duty at the time, having completed his assignment for the 2026 PGA Cadillac Championship on Sunday.
Secret Service Uniformed Division Chief Richard Macauley confirmed he is aware of the arrest and described the allegations as deeply concerning, noting that such conduct is unacceptable and stands in contrast to the professionalism demanded of the agency.
“The alleged conduct is unacceptable and stands in stark contrast to the professionalism and integrity that I demand of our personnel,” Macauley said. He added that the agency is taking the matter seriously while an internal investigation remains ongoing.
Spillman is based in Washington, D.C., but lists his home as Marble Falls, Texas. Following the incident, he was booked at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Centre and appeared in court on Monday.
The court set his bond at Sh129,000 ($1,000).
Spillman has since posted bail and is expected to be released while local authorities and the Secret Service continue their respective investigations into the matter.
