Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested a 68-year-old woman and recovered substances suspected to be narcotic drugs during an operation targeting drug trafficking in Nairobi.

According to police, officers from the Anti-Narcotics Unit intercepted a motorcycle at the main entrance of Mutete Flats on Friday following a tip-off. The suspect, 68-year-old Teresia Mwikali Amukoa, was riding as a passenger.

A search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of several packages wrapped in polythene bags and clear cello tape containing dry green plant material suspected to be narcotic drugs.

“Upon searching, officers recovered a black bag containing three packages wrapped in greenish polythene bags and clear cello tape, all containing dry green plant material suspected to be narcotic drugs. A cheetah-print handbag containing another package wrapped in greenish polythene and clear cello tape, also suspected to contain narcotic drugs, was also recovered,” the report stated.

Detectives later extended the operation to House Number 04 at Mutete Flats, where they recovered additional green plant material suspected to be narcotics, along with packaging materials believed to have been used in wrapping the drugs.

The suspect is being held at Muthaiga Police Station.

Police said the seized exhibits were taken to DCI headquarters for safe custody and further processing as investigations continue.
