Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni treated citizens to a dazzling drone light show that illuminated the skies of Kampala on Monday night ahead of his inauguration.
The spectacular aerial display drew widespread attention online just hours before the veteran leader was expected to be sworn in for his seventh term in office.
Museveni is beginning another five-year term after ruling the East African nation for four decades.
At around 8 pm local time, the skies above the Ugandan capital burst into colour as hundreds of drones formed breathtaking images and patriotic symbols.
Reports indicate that more than 350 drones were used during the rare technological spectacle.
The glowing formations captivated crowds gathered across Kampala, with many residents pulling out their phones to capture the moment.
The drones created displays featuring Museveni’s face, Uganda’s national colours and messages linked to the country’s development under his leadership.
Some of the glowing messages displayed in the night sky read, “Thank you for trusting us,” “To protect the gains” and “Welcome to Kololo.”
The display also highlighted political themes associated with the ruling National Resistance Movement party, projecting messages celebrating Uganda’s progress and stability.
Kampala was transformed ahead of the event, with major streets decorated in flags, banners and giant portraits of the president thanking citizens for their support.
Preparations had been underway for days, with the president’s office building excitement through announcements teasing the showcase.
Museveni is expected to officially take the oath of office at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds during a ceremony attended by regional leaders and dignitaries from across Africa.
The colourful showcase preceding the event quickly dominated social media platforms, where videos were widely shared by supporters.
Kenyan President William Ruto will not attend the inauguration due to commitments linked to the ongoing Africa Forward Summit.
However, Kenya will still be represented at the ceremony by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, who has already travelled to Uganda.
